Jim Blackwood: Audio Mastering and Recording Engineer
Audio mastering, location music recording, radio production, studio audio engineering, and post production audio for television and film.
As a mastering engineer, Jim has mastered over 400 albums for commercial release as well as numerous projects specifically slated for broadcast over the last 22 years. Many local and nationally recognized musicians count on Jim's mastering expertise. Jim also has extensive experience with archival audio transfers and restoration.
Jim began his broadcast engineering career in his teens, engineering live radio broadcasts of concerts and in-studio performances. In his early 20's he was recording and mixing orchestral and chamber music performances on a regular basis. In his mid to late 20's, Jim was working with locally based touring bands recording live performances and managing their tape archives. Much of this work continues to this day.
Jim has been the production engineer in charge of NPR 89.1's weekly news magazine "Arizona Spotlight", as well as Classical 90.5's "Tucson Symphony Orchestra", "Arizona Friends Of Chamber Music" and "Community Concert" radio series. Jim is also the post production audio engineer for Arizona Public Media's television programs; "Arizona Illustrated", "State of The ArtZ", "New Frontiers", and numerous AZPM produced documentary programs including most recently "OSIRIS-REx: To Bennu and Back".
Jim is also a veteran non-commercial DJ with over 35 years of on-air experience and has been the host of the daily radio program "Your Morning Brew" on KXCI Community Radio (M-F 7-10am on 91.3 FM in Tucson) for the last 26 years. Jim is also the longtime host of KXCI's Dead Air program (on the 1st Sunday of the month at 6 pm). Check out Jim's playlists for both programs here.
